How To Create and Remember Secure Passwords
You probably have many accounts on websites that require a password to access them.ti p
And if you are like me, also have a password to get into your computer.
Passwords are the first defense in keeping your data and info out of the hands of hackers.
A unique password for each site or application you log into online is a must. A strong password is measured by it's length and complexity. This means it is not easily guessed.
- A password should contain at least eight and up to 14 characters is the minimum).
- should have at least three of the four following types of characters — upper-case letters (ABC), lower-case letters (abc), numerals (123), and punctuation marks or other special characters (!#$%&*_=+? ).
- Does not contain your user name, real name, or company name.
- capital letters or special characters, should not be the first or last character in the password.
- Don't include any part of your name or any part of your email addresses.
- Avoid common names, slang words or any words in the dictionary. hackers programs run thru those in no time.
- Choose an especially strong password for websites that hold especially sensitive personal information — for example, banks or online retailers that store your credit-card information.
- don't make it your favorite band or movie, your pet's name, your nickname, your phone number or, especially, your birth date.
- Create an acronym from an easy-to-remember piece of information. For example, pick a phrase that is meaningful to you, such as My son's birthday is 14 December, 2005. Using that phrase as your guide, you might use Msbi14/Dec,5 for your password.
- If you must write down your password in order to remember it, make sure you don't label it as your password, and keep it in a safe place.
